Trump Signs Peace Agreement in Kuala Lumpur

President Trump facilitated the signing of peace agreements between Thailand and Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur, but clashes re‑emerged in December. U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio expressed concern over the ongoing violence and urged full implementation of the agreements, calling Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to push for a ceasefire. The United States remains ready to aid dialogue for stability along the 820‑km border.

In October, Trump presided over the signing of peace agreements between Thailand and Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur; however, clashes resumed in early December.

The two countries began four days of negotiations seeking a peaceful resolution to the border hostilities, which have already taken at least 86 lives. U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio expressed concern about the ongoing violence and reiterated President Trump’s desire for peace and the need to fully implement the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreements.

He called Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to push for a ceasefire and reaffirmed that the United States is ready to facilitate talks to ensure peace and stability between Thailand and Cambodia.

Since early December, the armies of Thailand and Cambodia have fought at several points along the 820‑kilometer border. Trump mediated in the conflict in July, when border skirmishes left about fifty dead, threatening trade reprisals.

The two Asian nations continue a long‑standing dispute over sovereignty of several border territories, mapped by France in 1907 when Cambodia was part of French Indochina.

"We are concerned about the ongoing violence between Cambodia and Thailand."

"President Trump wants peace, and we must fully implement the Kuala Lumpur agreements."
