Cambodia confirmed on Wednesday that Thailand has released 18 Cambodian soldiers captured in July, following a ceasefire that lasted for more than three days after weeks of deadly border clashes.
This ceasefire agreement came after intense negotiations between the two countries, which had been engaged in armed confrontation along their shared border for several weeks. The capture of Cambodian servicemen had significantly escalated the already tense situation in the region.
"We are pleased to announce that all 18 of our soldiers have been released and have returned home," stated a government spokesperson from Cambodia. He also expressed hope that this development would pave the way for a more stable and lasting peace between the two neighboring nations.
